Übergossene Alm chees:

A piece of Hochkönig that melts in your mouth

Anyone who has ever walked across the alpine meadows of the Hochkönig knows that life tastes different here – more authentic, more genuine. This is precisely the feeling that homemade Übergossene Alm cheese brings to the table. It embodies what the Übergossene Alm Resort is all about: a commitment to regionality, genuine craftsmanship and a deep connection to nature and the local people.

The cheese is made from fresh milk from the Schneggbauer farm – directly from the neighbour and cousin of hotelier Wolfgang Burgschwaiger. The milk is processed in the Pinzga Kas Mobil, a mobile cheese dairy that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern flexibility.

The result: three distinctive varieties – Alpine herbs, fenugreek and natural – which capture the taste of the Alps in very different ways.

You can sample this special treat at the daily evening cheese buffet at the Übergossene Alm Resort – fresh, flavourful, authentic. If you want to take a piece of your holiday home with you, you can also purchase the cheese directly at the resort (price on request) and bring a little bit of the alpine feeling into your everyday life.

Unadulterated. Homely. With a genuine connection to the region.

This is how cheese tastes when it is not only made, but lived. It is not just a culinary experience – it is a way of life. And perhaps the most delicious proof that sometimes the good things in life are really close at hand.

The Übergossene Alm Resort takes responsibility today for tomorrow

At the Übergossene Alm Resort, consideration for others is not a trend, but a tradition. The Burgschwaiger family is now in its second generation of running the hotel – with a clear focus on what matters: unspoilt nature, regional ties and respectful use of resources.

Since 2008, the entire resort has been heated by a nearby wood chip plant – fuelled by wood from the region. This saves around 400 tonnes of CO₂ every year. Efficiency is also a priority when it comes to electricity consumption: LED lighting, digital monitoring systems and conscious use of water from our own springs and modern fittings have long been a matter of course.

The kitchen at the Übergossene Alm Resort showcases the values of the hotel in a particularly enjoyable way: fresh, seasonal food is used – sourced directly from the region. As part of the AMA Genuss Region, the resort is committed to using high-quality, regional products that are carefully selected, gently refined and prepared with precision craftsmanship. This promise of quality is complemented by the SalzburgerLand certificate of origin, which stands for regionality in practice and close partnerships with local producers. Short distances, honest craftsmanship and a respectful approach to everything that ends up on the plate characterise our daily work.

Even in the rooms, the forward thinking continues: environmentally friendly cleaning products, precise dosing systems and the option to have bed linen and towels changed only when necessary show that even small things can make a big difference. A new feature is the ‘sustainability option’ – guests who opt out of daily room cleaning are rewarded with a cocktail voucher.

The Übergossene Alm Resort has been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel several times for its holistic commitment – most recently in 2022. In the same year, the resort also received the European Ecolabel for the first time. This is silent proof that responsible behaviour and genuine enjoyment go together wonderfully.
