Small things, big impact

How habits become attitudes in ENGEL

Between heaven and earth, responsibility begins in the details

At the Der Engel wellness hotel in Grän, many things are palpable: tranquility, space, security. But some things are very subtle. Not as a grand statement, but as a daily decision. The hotel's philosophy is based on three pillars: grounding, purity, and seduction. The idea behind this is that a vacation destination is only harmonious when the surroundings, materials, and actions fit together.

This is not about perfection, but about conscious action – step by step.

Or sometimes: step by step in the truest sense of the word.

100% biodegradable – the story behind the bathing slippers

In the past, around 20,000 disposable bath slippers were used every year. Plastic, individually packaged, worn once – then thrown away.
A typical hotel standard. And at the same time, a point where it was possible to start rethinking things. Today, the Engel slippers are made of cork and linen, manufactured in Portugal. They feel more comfortable, smell of nature instead of industry, and disappear back into the cycle of nature.

What's so special about them?
Guests notice the difference immediately on their feet.
The environment notices it in the long term.
And that is precisely the approach of the hotel:
not communicating sacrifice, but offering better alternatives.

The common thread: materials with meaning

At Engel, this approach permeates many areas. Natural colors, authentic fabrics, regional roots—everything should feel organic, not contrived.
The idea behind it is simple: if something feels right, it will automatically be used correctly.

This leads to change without finger-wagging:

•    A spa that works with tranquility instead of sensory overload.
•    Cuisine that creates closeness instead of distance.
•    Furnishings that are chosen for their durability rather than seasonal trends.

As a result, guests experience quality rather than sacrifice.

Vacations that have a lasting effect

Many initiatives remain invisible—and should remain so. Because true comfort comes when you don't have to think about it all the time.
But sometimes it's worth taking a closer look.
For example, on the way to the pool in the morning.
The slippers tell a story:
Not of prohibitions, but of decisions.
Not of sacrifice, but of forward thinking.
And perhaps that is precisely the most modern form of luxury:
When relaxation feels good, even long after you've left.
