Callanetics crossed from theUSAtoEuropeas a new trend at the start of the 90s. Callanetics got its name from its founder, Callan Pickney. Based on her balletic training, she developed her own form of gymnastics. This is known as the “gymnastics of small movements”. Small changes of body posture in combination with slow, exact movements strengthen specific groups of muscles without placing a strain on the back. The focus is on stomach, legs and bottom. Furthermore, regularly performing callanetics improves body posture, stabilises the pelvis and relieves the strain on the muscles in the back. This prevents tension and pain occurring in the lower back. Men and women can shape their bodies, break down fat and build up muscles using the callanetics method. Joints become elastic and flexibility is improved.
