Tibetan singing bowl sound therapy

Music is motivating. High above the Ziller valley, Tibetan singing bowls and gongs will sweep you off into a world of soothing sounds and medicinal powers.

Music has played an important role in our lives since the beginning of mankind. Music existed before language was developed. Even unborn children react to sounds, which accompany them into the world. Melody, rhythm and sounds have positive effects on the body and soul and let us express our emotions freely.  Music can stimulate and influence our pulse, metabolism, brain activity and respiration. As an artistic, creative and therapeutic medium, music offers endless possibilities.

Music and the brain

The cortex is what defines a person. This is where phenomena develop, such as consciousness, thinking and imagination. The perception of music mostly takes place in the right half of the cortex, just as the ability to orientate ourselves and grasp complex images does. Languages, however, are processed on the left side of the brain. Many people find that music helps them to think abstractly or spatially. While musicians can also analytically hear with the left side of the brain, non professional listeners tend to listen with emotion with the right side of the brain.

For relaxation or stimulation

It's a fact that music effects our emotions.  Hectic, loud music brings about an unpleasant feeling in stressed people. Soft, soothing sounds, however, have the opposite effect. In stressful situations, it can help to take a short break and listen to relaxing music, this relieves stress and pain. Gently flowing music like that of the clarinet or violin promotes relaxation. Hence the fact that the music of Mozart, Bach and Vivaldi is so relaxing. Sitting or lying down in a comfortable position makes it even easier to relax.  Rhythmic music is more a stimulating kind of music,  such as rock, reggae or processionals. Dancing and moving increase the positive effects that music has on us. (Source: AOK)
